DOREEN GARNER: DISSECTING HISTORY THROUGH VISCERAL MATERIAL

New York City-based artist Doreen Garner will discuss how she creates corporeal sculptures that explore the frequently suppressed and traumatic medical histories of the Black body and acknowledge the simultaneous resilience and silencing of African Americans throughout history. The presentation will be followed by a brief, panel-based Q & A session.
