BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART:20201029T141500 DTEND:20201029T153000 SUMMARY:Americans with Disabilities Act 30th Anniversary Celebration DESCRIPTION:Join Judith Heumann, Katelynn Schultz (KU ADA Resource Center for Equity and Accessibility), and Dior Vargas (mental health activist and creator of "People of Color and Mental Illness Photo Project) in conversation with Rebekah Taussig (KU alum and author of “Sitting Pretty”) on the emerging issue of representation of disability in the media. Current representation of disability in media is most frequently portrayed by an actor without a disability instead of an actor with a disability. Actors’ portrayals of individuals with disabilities range from pitiful to heroic and use both harmful and outdated stereotypes. Honest and accurate representation of disability in the media is overdue and would be life-altering for both individuals with disabilities and society as a whole. This program is part of KU’s 30th anniversary celebration of the ADA. For details, visit LOCATION:Register to join us online at END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
