DESCRIPTION:Join Professor Alicia Volk (University of Maryland) for a talk about Japanese art during the Early Cold War (1945–1952). This immensely creative period reveals how artistic expression in Japan both accommodated and resisted the American occupation. Volk will demonstrate how this transnational history of art stretches beyond Japan to include art from China, Europe, and the United States and holds the potential for rethinking narratives of global postwar art.
