Romi Morrison

Romi Morrison is an interdisciplinary designer, artist, and researcher working across the fields of critical data studies, black feminist praxis, and geography. Focusing on boundaries, subjectivity, and evidence, Morrison examines how inconsistencies allow for emergent moments to practice new spatial relationships and knowledges. From these seemingly conflicting spaces we can learn to rework systems to be more collaborative and action-oriented in everyday life and in scholarship. From building open source platforms to crafting community-based archives that combat gentrification, Morrison’s work investigates cartographies of slow violence, inconsistent data, and blackness.

Morrison has exhibited work at the American Institute of Architects New York, UN World Urban Forum, Tribeca Film Festival, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Joan Mitchell Center, Recess Assembly Gallery, and Project Row Houses. Morrison is currently an Annenberg PhD Fellow in the School of Cinematic Arts at USC in Los Angeles. They will participate in the Integrated Arts Research Initiative colloquium on November 6 at the University of Kansas.
