About

We are an art museum located at the heart of the University of Kansas Lawrence campus. Our collection ranges from ancient to contemporary art, representing cultures across six continents from 5,000 years of human creativity. We invite you to explore the past, present, and future through our exhibitions and programs, which are free for everyone, always.

Who we are

We have two floors of galleries that present special exhibitions and long-term installations of our collection.

Our regular program of free events are for visitors of all ages and interests. They include art-making activities, gallery talks with curators and artists, performances, films, and community events.

The Spencer Museum of Art is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and participates in the Association of Art Museum Directors.

What our visitors say

“The Spencer Museum of Art is a real jewel in the Midwest. This is a world-class art museum and one that is worth taking the time to see. The Spencer has art from most time periods and all are first-rate works.”

"Stunning and accessible museum: A beautiful structure with amazing exhibits. One of the finer 'small' fine art museums."

“They not only have great galleries with really great exhibits, but they host great events with speakers related to the current exhibits. Being able to not only see great art, but to also understand the why behind the exhibit is fantastic.”
