Exhibition Label: "Venice Observed," Dec-1980, Elizabeth Broun and Yolanda de Estrada Architecture in Venice tends to be more decorative than that from other areas of Italy. The severe, balanced style of the Palazzo Grazzi imitates Florentine examples, while the Palazzo Vendramin shown here is purely Venetian. The architect used an elegant type of fenestration known as Codussian windows. In this window, two small arches are enclosed within a larger arch, and a roundel fills the space between the small arches and the larger one.
