Eternal Spring: Cranes
The red satin background of this panel indicates that it would have hung from the bride and groom’s table during a wedding feast. The red-crowned crane is a symbol of long life and the peach in its beak is closely associated with immortality and springtime. The bottle gourd vines in the corners are commonly associated with fertility because of their many seeds. Flying among the bottle gourds are eight bats, which symbolize good fortune and blessings.
