"American Etchers Abroad, 1880-1939," Apr-2004, Reed Anderson
Taking full advantage of his time abroad, Rosenberg visited the ancient city of Constantinople (present day Istanbul). As might be expected, he focused his attention on the architectural wonders there, and produced prints like "The Grand Bazaar, Constantinople," which is a fine example of the artist’s facility with drypoint.
The artist takes the viewer inside one of the world’s legendary marketplaces, a city within a city where goods from every nation were once bought and sold. The stone-vaulted interior is populated with different types of people, who have come to examine the treasures to be found at the market.
