Empowerment
Fioti-fioti means “little” in Lingala and is an iteration of a common Congolese aphorism, “little by little the bird builds its nest.” This can be understood as with time and steady work, success will eventually be built. When used in reference to young women, the term alludes to the perseverance and varied strategies of women to survive and thrive in society.
