Reading the World
Lisa Grossman’s Floodplain Scrolls began with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) map images of the Kansas River floodplain. She then created black-and-white compositions that were laser cut onto wood panels and painted them directly with black and metallic acrylics. LiDAR imaging reveals intricate detail of the river’s migration across the floodplain. This process allows Grossman to better understand the undulating banks and meandering scars where the river once flowed.
