One History, Two Versions

“Find the truth. After that, justice may be possible.” —Alvin Sykes (1956–2021) Alvin Sykes was a prominent civil rights activist and friend of Emmett Till’s cousin Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr. Sykes lobbied for the 2008 Emmett Till Act that allows the federal government to reopen and investigate past civil rights violations. Sykes was from Kansas City, Kansas, where many of the flower species depicted in this artwork thrive.
