Recipients of 2015 Jack and Lavon Brosseau Creativity Awards Announced

LAWRENCE, KS, June 29, 2015 — The Spencer Museum of Art proudly announces the 2015 recipients of the Jack and Lavon Brosseau Creativity Awards. The awards recognize outstanding creativity and originality among University of Kansas undergraduate students from any department and honor work that demonstrates risk-taking and critical thinking.

Lawrence, KS, April 29, 2014 – The Jack and Lavon Brosseau Creativity Awards recognize outstanding creativity and originality among University of Kansas undergraduate students. Open to students in any department for writing and multimedia projects, the awards honor work that demonstrates risk-taking and critical thinking.

Celebrating final week of Dan Perjovschi installation, SMA Student Advisory Board to host “Dunk & Draw”

Lawrence, KS, January 27, 2011 – As part of a week-long “Drawathon” celebrating the final days of the the Dan Perjovschi Central Court drawing exhibition, the Spencer Museum of Art and its Student Advisory Board (SAB) will host a “Dunk & Draw” event Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at 5:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public, and includes Roasterie coffee from the Kansas Union, complimentary donuts from Muncher’s Bakery, and music provided by DJ Genki.

Smithsonian curator Gwyneira Isaac on "Object 2.0: New Paradigms in the Interpretation of Ethnographic Collections"

Lawrence, KS. March 7, 2011 – Gwyneira Isaac is Curator of North American Ethnology, Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. She investigates the relationships societies develop with their past, especially as to how this is expressed through knowledge systems, material culture, and museums. She will speak on "Object 2.0: New Paradigms in the Interpretation of Ethnographic Collections." A reception will follow in the Central Court.

Spencer Museum announces inaugural recipients of Jack and Lavon Brosseau Creativity Awards

Lawrence, KS, May 18, 2011 – A haunting short story by an architectural engineering student and a proposal for a multi-layered sonic installation by a music composition and theory student are the inaugural recipients of The Jack and Lavon Brosseau Creativity Awards from the Spencer Museum of Art. Benefactor Lavon Brosseau, a former high-school teacher from Concordia, Kansas, established the prizes last fall to celebrate outstanding creativity among undergraduate students at the University of Kansas.
