Rockne Krebs: Drawings for Sculpture You Can Walk Through

Lawrence, KS, August 23, 2013 – This fall, the Spencer Museum of Art will exhibit works of art by pioneering, Kansas City-born laser artist Rockne Krebs (1938-2011), whose large-scale, site-specific installations, often spanning entire urban landscapes, were created using the ephemeral media of laser and natural light choreographed through the careful use of prisms, mirrors, and electronic controls.

Take One Last Look: Spencer Museum prepares to close galleries for renovation

LAWRENCE, KS, March 30, 2015— The Spencer Museum invites you to take one last look at the galleries before closing for Phase I of a major renovation. During the next two weeks, the Museum will host several Last Look events, including extended hours and entertainment on April 4 and 11, and a Closing Party on April 12 from 3–5pm.

Spencer Museum selects Mar Lan Construction for major renovation project

LAWRENCE, KS, April 28, 2015— The Spencer Museum of Art announces the selection of Mar Lan Construction to carry out the Museum’s major Phase I renovation project, set to begin this May. The project, which will transform more than 30,000 square feet of the Museum, represents the first major renovation of the building since it was completed in 1977.

Arts Research Collaboration initiative hosts hybrid practices colloquium

LAWRENCE, KS, May 5, 2015— The Arts Research Collaboration initiative (ARC) at the Spencer Museum of Art continues its investigation of collaborative research bridging the arts and sciences with a colloquium on May 14, 2015, from 2:30-5:00 pm at The Commons on the University of Kansas campus. Thanks to generous support from the Terra Foundation for American Art, the colloquium is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Rocket Grants 2015 program awards $59,000 to 11 grant recipients

LAWRENCE, KS, June 12, 2015—The 2015 Rocket Grants have awarded a total of $59,000 for 11 projects, the largest grant amount in the program’s history. Nine projects received Full Project Awards between $4,000 and $6,000, and two projects received Research & Development Awards for $2,000 with a further $3,000 to $4,000 dependent upon an implementation proposal.

Trio of visiting artists to share Haida culture through talk and performances

LAWRENCE, KS, September 8, 2015—Three renowned indigenous artists from the Pacific Northwest Coast will visit the University of Kansas in September to share visual and performing arts of the Haida people. Their visit will include art demonstrations for students as well as a public lecture and performance. The artists include weaver Evelyn Vanderhoop, basket-maker Delores Churchill, and musician Gloria Burns.
