Lawrence, KS – The Spencer Museum of Art will conclude KU’s 2011 Homecoming weekend in style with a Family Fun Day from 1-3 PM on Sunday, October 2. Spencer Museum co-sponsors art-science workshop at Konza Prairie

KU artists and scientists are invited to apply for a cross-disciplinary workshop at the Konza Prairie Biological Station in Manhattan, Kan., on July 15. The workshop, co-sponsored by the Spencer Museum of Art and a Kansas State University Academic Excellence Award, is designed as a day of discovery and dialogue for scholars from the arts and sciences to share research ideas and approaches.

Spencer Museum of Art Receives Highest National Recognition

Lawrence, KS, December 19, 2011 – The Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas has again achieved accreditation by the American Association of Museums (AAM), the highest national recognition afforded the nation’s museums. Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, to governments, funders, outside agencies, and to the museum-going public. The Spencer was initially accredited in 1978, the year the museum opened, and has maintained accreditation ever since.

Gallery Reinstallation Project Enters Exciting New Phase with ‘Empire of Things’

Lawrence, KS, December 19, 2012 – In 2010, the Spencer Museum of Art envisioned a bold reinstallation of its permanent collection. Called Project Redefine, the transformation represents a dramatic shift from traditionally conceived galleries organized by time period and continent to an innovative new organizational principle based on themes, drawing works from disparate regions and eras into the same physical space and, by extension, into conversation with one another.

Albert Bloch painting donated by KU alumni represents artist’s early work in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, KS, December 19, 2014 – It may be cold outside, but the Spencer Museum’s 20/21 Gallery has some added warmth with the newly acquired Albert Bloch painting Summer. The painting, donated this fall by KU alumni Dr. Eric and Michelle Voth, adds to the Spencer’s strong holdings by Bloch and represents a unique period in the artist’s work. The left half of the painting portrays a still-life of a vibrant yellow flower in a vase, while on the right half a woman and a clown share a quiet and somewhat mysterious interaction.

Spencer Museum launches art mobile app created by KU Information Technology

LAWRENCE, KS, November 19, 2015 — Spencer Museum of Art and KU Information Technology (KU IT) staff have collaborated on a new mobile app that provides a virtual “insider’s look” at the Museum through images, video, and text. Users can explore with audio and video tours, browse photographs of objects with multiple views, and learn more with digital label copy.
