Archive Label date unknown: The Japanese fox, called kitsune, is another character from folklore which exhibits trickster traits. Foxes in their true form sometimes were carved as ivory or wood netsuke. One such example is this wood netsuke consisting of a fox head with cleverly carved movable jaws.
