Nature/Natural
The ferryboat, crossing the Sumida River in Edo (Tokyo) at sunset, is filled with a cross section of the populace of that busy city: a samurai, pedlars, a mother and her baby, a blind man, a monk or nun, a bird-catcher and the ferryman. All look at the dark blue silhouette of Mt. Fuji framed against what was originally a pale pink sky. The publisher has displayed his trademark prominently on the cloth bundle of the passenger standing with his back to us.
