Calendula quilt, or Allen Rose, or variation of the Democrat Rose Variation quilt, Rose Frances Good Kretsinger (1886–1963)

This quilt’s titles, both “Allen Rose” and “Calendula,” reference an herb with orange and yellow flowers. Rose Kretsinger based her design on a traditional combination of stylized flowers. Her unique style, demonstrated through this quilt’s balance, border, and quilting, won her national recognition. The Spencer’s collection includes 30 quilts and quilt designs by Kretsinger.
