The "Memphis Belle" piece was part of the "We Remember" airshow over memorial day weekend in 1998. Surviving crew members of the WWII aircraft met and gathered around the original Memphis Belle aircraft with the Memphis Belle painting located on the nose of the aircraft. Titled "I'm the One with the Part in the Back" for Esquire, the Memephis Belle was first published in the magazine as an airbrush watercolor piece along with series of what was referred to as "Petty Girls." On the WWII B-17 bomber aircraft constructed by Boeing Aircraft Co. in 1941 the Memphis Belle was painted wearing a red dress in reverse to the original, facing forward instead of her back facing the viewer. The aircraft was named after Memphis resident Margaret Polk, who was the "sweetheart" of the pilot, Robert Morgan. The aircraft flew 25 missions over Nazi-occupied territory without a crew member being killed and a 26th mission for morale and fund raising.
