Archive Label 2003: Inspired by the poem of Huang Fuweng, Lu has depicted two scholars seated in a lakeside pavilion, awaiting the arrival of a boat which is perhaps to take one of them away. The harsh light-dark contrasts and turbulant brushwork are ideal for expressing the restless mood of waiting on a dismal, drizzling day. The dramatic movement at the right contrasts remarkably with the left side of the scroll where the boat sails unperturbed through an open expanse of water.
