During the Edo period, a relatively peaceful political and social climate allowed for safe travel wtihin the country. Seen here is a popular travel destination, Miho no Matsubara, located on the Pacific coast of Japan. One of three famous pinetree-lined sandy beaches in Japan, this scenic spot remains a favorite destination of travelers even today. Pine trees line the white-sand beach along the right side of the composition, while stylized cloud forms stretch from either side of the screen, meeting above the tips of two boats moored on the seashore.
