The Power and Pleasure of Possessions in Korean Painted Screens

The traditional form of chaekgeori continued to be a source of creative inspiration for artists in contemporary times. This 20thcentury version depicts mythical and auspicious creatures such as a dragon, deer, lion, chimera, and tiger frolicking among the books. By including these animals the artist enlivens the realm of books and literature with incarnations of the imagined world of mythology.
