And Still We Rise

1619: The transatlantic slave trade was the largest forced migration of people across international oceanic borders, and one of the most horrific tragedies in human history. Between 1500 and 1886, the transatlantic slave trade carried an estimated 11.5 million Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to be sold as slaves in the Americas, a journey often called the Middle Passage. In 1619, an English ship flying the Dutch flag brings approximately 20 African captives to Point Comfort near Jamestown in the English colony of Virginia, and trades them for food. They are the first documented Africans to arrive at Jamestown.
