And Still We Rise

1905: Sarah Breedlove McWilliams, who will later be known as Madame C. J. Walker, starts an African American hair care business with a secret formula she developed. She and her husband will begin traveling in 1907 to promote the “Walker System” of hair care using Madame C. J. Walker hair products. Walker will be America’s first self-made woman millionaire. She is celebrated by the artist as a teacher, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
