And Still We Rise

1947: Jackie Robinson signs to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier. Robinson will spend his entire Major League career with the Dodgers, setting fielding and batting records. Robinson is named the National League’s Most Valued Player in 1949, and in 1962 he becomes the first African American player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The number 42 in the quilt’s title refers to Robinson’s uniform number on the team and also the name of a movie that was made about his life.
