1960: American Negro Art by Cedric Dover, an influential book about African American visual art from the colonial era to 1960, is published by the New York Graphic Society. The book is illustrated with work from African American artists Hale Woodruff, Eldzier Cortor, Aaron Douglas, Elizabeth Catlett, James Porter, Ellis Wilson, Richmond Barthé, and many others.
