Event description

“Malês” (2025) is a historical drama set in 1835 Brazil. It follows a Muslim African couple who are kidnapped, separated, and forced to navigate the violence of slavery. They become involved in the Malê Revolt, the largest organized slave uprising in Brazilian history. Run time: 1 hr 54 min. After the film Professor João José Reis (Federal University of Bahia, Salvador, Brazil) will discuss his research and work as the film’s historical advisor.
