Coffee @ The Commons: Humankind: Solidarity with Non-Humans
Event date, time, and location
Event description
Timothy Morton (Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English, Rice University) fuses the arts, humanities, and scientific scholarship to radically reconceptualize humankind's relationship with the natural world. Morton will lead a discussion based on human relationships with nonhuman beings, which he argues, will decide the fate of our humanity. Morton writes that being human relies on creating a network of kindness and solidarity with nonhuman beings, in the name of a broader understanding of reality that both includes and overcomes the notion of species.
