Join visiting artist Ulrick Jean-Pierre, Professor of American Studies and African and African American Studies Randal Jelks, and Curator Cassandra Mesick Braun for a lively dialogue to open the Unexpected Caribbean symposium. During the reception immediately following, the University Dance Company presents “Vini Pi Pre/Come Closer”, a contemporary dance theatre work from choreographer Michelle Heffner Hayes reflecting the postures, shapes, lines, and concepts from the paintings and their subjects, as well as African diaspora dance traditions through a contemporary lens.
