"Conversations with the ancestors I never got to meet"
Event date, time, and location
Event description
“Conversations with the ancestors I never got to meet” is an audio-visual project by Midori Samson that explores collective trauma, self-healing, and intergenerational memory. In dialogue with the work of Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani, her project reflects histories of incarceration and survival. Like Mirikitani, 14 of Samson’s ancestors were incarcerated at Tule Lake Segregation Center during WWII. Midori will give a short talk followed by a performance of songs from her album that use recordings from Tule Lake and the Hiroshima bomb hypocenter.
