"Snow Angel" and "As One"
Event date, time, and location
Event description
This free livestreamed performance by students in the KU School of Music and KU Orchestra will explore themes of identity, trauma, and resilience through two contemporary operas. “Snow Angel” by Bonnie McLarty with words by Wyatt Townley explores the reclamation of personal identity and agency following a sexual assault of the female protagonist. “As One” by Laura Kaminsky with words by Mark Campbell & Kimberly Reed traces the life experiences of a transgender protagonist named Hannah. Both operas contain mature content including violence and profanity; viewer discretion is advised. A community conversation on April 29 hosted by the Spencer Museum will provide a space to further discuss themes from the operas in relation to the exhibition “Healing, Knowing, Seeing the Body.”
