Sew and Tell Visible Mending Workshop

Event date, time, and location

July 7, 2022
6:00–8:00PM
Spencer Museum of Art, Perkins Central Court

Event description

Learn about visible mending traditions and techniques and hone your hand-sewing skills to transform or extend the life of a garment. Textiles/fibers graduate student Anne Rogers shares examples from the Spencer’s collection and their own work and discusses how and why mending can be a radical act of making. Bring any textile in need of repair or transformation, or use one of our samples. All other supplies provided. We’ll experiment with different stitches and patches while sharing stories about the garments in our lives. All experience levels welcome. This workshop is also offered on Sunday, July 24, 2-4PM. Come to one or both sessions. Email aduke@ku.edu or call 785.864.0126 to register.
