Event description

With the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the Spencer kicks off festivities celebrating the 40th anniversary of KU's "February Sisters" women's rights activists with an opening reception for the exhibition Then & Now: Women Artists at the Spencer Museum of Art (Jan. 31-Feb. 8, Raymond White Teaching Gallery). The exhibition will only be on view for one week. Refreshments will be served. The event also provides an opportunity to see for the first time a major recent acquisition: South African artist Mary Sibande's 2009 sculpture Sophie Ntombikayise. Sibande's work will be available for a special viewing at the reception; it will not be on view again until later this year (Central Court, August 11-November 11).

Co-sponsors: Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Spencer Museum of Art
