Event description

Jessica Gerschultz, Assistant Professor of African/African American Studies at the University of Kansas, will explore the complex significance of women's artistic production and training at the École des Beaux-Arts in postcolonial Tunisia. Weaving and design education embodied the larger trend toward modernization in the 1960s, exemplifying the contradictions underpinning gender and educational reform. Gerschultz will discuss how professors, students, artist-designers, and administrators participated in these developments.
