View of Old North College, James Hess (active 1874–1884)

This image of Old North College was painted looking northeast from the second floor of a home at 12th and Oread Streets in Lawrence, Kansas. Although some artistic license appears to have been taken, this view of the young city of Lawrence bears strong similarity to Alexander Gardner’s photograph of the same view, taken in 1867.
