Exhibition Overview

Bobbin' and Weavin': Contemporary Textiles at the Spencer
Bobbin' and Weavin': Contemporary Textiles at the Spencer
Study Gallery, Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

Co-curated by Debra Thimmesch, Spencer Curatorial Intern, European and American Art and Susan Earle, Curator of European and American Art.

Organized in conjunction with the Surface Design Association’s International Textile Conference in Kansas City, June 2 - 5, 2005, this exhibition assembled a lively, masterful, and diverse selection of contemporary textiles. Each artist’s exploration of the vast and exciting range of formal possibilities, which both honor and transcend the rich tradition of weaving, served as the show’s connective thread. Featured artists included Lia Cook, Barbara Eckhardt, Lynn Basa, Cynthia Schira, and David Brackett.
