Beyond the Drawing Room: The Art of Mary Huntoon
Joyce Fent, curator
June 4, 1995–July 20, 1995
White Gallery, Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas
An exhibition celebrating the remarkable odyssey of a trailblazing Kansas woman artist to the salons of Europe and back to Kansas for a second career as the state's first art therapist. The fifty prints, drawings, and paintings in the show record five decades of Huntoon's work. Born in Topeka, Huntoon graduated from Washburn College, as it was then known, and studied and exhibited in Europe before returning to do pioneering work with Dr. Karl Menninger in art therapy. The show was organized for the Kansas Reciprocal Art Touring Exhibition Service by curator Joyce Fent and the Salina Art Center.
