The buildings in this skyline show us it is Topeka, the capital of Kansas. Architecture is one way people interact with and change the land they live on. Many buildings in Kansas are made from materials found on the land nearby. The Capitol building is made with Kansas limestone and native Kansas cherry wood, among other materials. Try gathering sticks, grasses, and other materials from your environment to build a structure. What materials work well or don’t? The artist, Mary Huntoon, made many artworks about Kansas.
