January 4, 2026–January 4, 2026
University of Kansas Museum of Art, Lawrence, Kansas

The works in this exhibition provided a sampling of American art from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. Generalities about art are always to some extent misleading. Certainly, to generalize about American art of the past hundred years on the basis of this small sampling would be foolhardy. Our hope is that visitors to the exhibition may find it interesting, informative, and perhaps provocative of some reflections on American life and culture.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Division of Continuing Education.
