Charles Walter Stetson (1858-1911) was exhibited and admired as a major artistic figure throughout Europe and America during his life-time, yet his name has almost vanished from histories of the period. His life and work, documented in an exhibition and catalogue by former Spencer Museum director Charles C. Eldredge, are fascinating in themselves, and also open a window on the concerns of fin-de-siècle America. Supported by a grant from the national Endowment for the Arts.
