Bold Women
This work portrays empty children’s shoes accompanied by bits of prairie grass, or shards of ground. The shoes and the ground become interchangeable, evoking both absence and presence, as well as homecoming. Faye HeavyShield notes it is “the home where they came from and where they return.” The physical absence of the children may serve as a stand-in for the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) whose lives have been taken across Canada and elsewhere.
