Take a Little Trip, Sandra Brewster

This video combines archival footage of eight famous Black Caribbean cultural figures. Talking in their own words in short clips are musicians Salome Bey, Nina Simone, and Minnie Riperton, writers Toni Morrison and Frantz Fanon, artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, performer Josephine Baker, and journalist and community activist Claudia Jones. In contrast to the photographs displayed nearby, artist Sandra Brewster expects viewers to recognize the subjects in this video. Passages spoken in French are translated and captioned by the artist.
