Piazza San Marco is the civic center of Venice. On the left is the Procuratie Nuove, the new building that housed the Procurators of St. Mark; it was begun in the 16th century. On the right is the Old Procuratie erected in the 15th century; at the back is the latest adddition, constructed in the 18th century. Paolo Salviati had studios in both the old and new Procuratie.
