Exhibition Label: "Venice Observed," Dec-1980, Elizabeth Broun and Yolanda de Estrada Two saints are honored as protectors of Venice--St. Theodore, whose statue crowns the column at left; and St. Mark, whose symbol the winged lion is atop the other column. This view can be compared to Whistler's print of the same subject. Whistler showed the buildings in reverse, for he did not bother to compensate for the left-to-right reversal inherent in the etching process.
