Exhibition Label: "Venice Observed," Dec-1980, Elizabeth Broun and Yolanda de Estrada Michelangelo and Palladio participated in the competition for the design of this bridge, but the Venetian Republic preferred the bold design by Antonio da Ponte. The orginal arcade was conceived by da Ponte in 1588; later the arcade was filled with merchants' shops.
