Archive Label 2003: This work applies the large scale and gestural flourish of the Abstract Expressionist painters to the portrayal of a simple scene. The repetition of shapes makes the painting hover between abstraction and representation. Like other artists working in the 1960s, Goldberg uses scale to reinvent our perspective on everyday objects.
