Exhibition Label: “Conversation IV: Construction/Destruction,” Nov-2008, Bertram Lyons The Draper daguerreotype is the earliest surviving extant photographic portrait in the world. A 1933 attempt to improve the quality of the image completely obliterated all traces of the portrait. In 1970, James Enyeart was able to revive the image to approximately fifty percent of its density prior to that 1933 treatment.
