This title implies that Welpott’s subject is related to the Voodoo religion practiced around New Orleans, Louisana. In truth, so-called “voodoo dolls,” a term describing an effigy into which pins are inserted, do not have a prominent role in Haitian Vodou or Voodoo. Welpott has likely associated this intriguing object with a religion that he, like many Americans, knows little about.
