Archive Label 2003: In 1828 a Dürerfest was held in Nuremberg commemorating the 300th anniversary of Dürer’s death. The centerpiece for this event was a painted cycle of mock stained-glass paintings, Transparentgemälde, showing scenes of Dürer’s life. We can get a sense of these from Förster’s study for one of them, the Death of Dürer’s Mother (based in part on Dürer’s woodcut of the Death of the Virgin).
