Debut

Shortly after moving to Rome in 1947, Pietro Consagra founded Forma I, an artist collective that advocated Marxism and abstract art. After Consagra exhibited this sculpture at the 1956 Venice Biennale, an international exhibition held every two years, Forma I merged with the group Continuità, which called for stronger unity with Italian art history and a restoration of order and structure in art.
