Exhibition Label: "Constructions of Place: Architecture in Photography," Jan-1991, Erin Barnett The owner of one of the largest and earliest publishing houses of photographic views, Frith was influential in making photography commercially viable. He first traveled to the Middle East in 1856 to document important buildings of antiquity such as the Great Hall in Karnac. These photographs were published in books, portfolios, stereograph sets, and as individual prints.
